Insect Sex Part 2: Collembola (Springtails)

Insects are an incredibly diverse group of animals with an equally diverse set of strategies for making babies. This is part two of a short series of shows where we bring you the stories of some of these reproductive strategies. You’ll hear about death and violence, seductive dances, cross-dressing, bizarre gender roles, and more. Technically, springtails are not actually insects, but they are the next closest thing.

We won’t be talking about human sex or making any off-color jokes, but if you think that you or your kids would not want to hear scientific words about sexual organs and acts, then maybe you shouldn’t listen to this show.

Bootown

We all like a good show, but the theater can be a little too formal sometimes. So let’s take a theatrical show… minus the theater, minus the fancy clothes, and add some beer and the occasional adult theme. What do you get? Bootown.

Found Footage Festival

Picture this: you’re channel surfing on autopilot at 3 in the morning. Suddenly, you come across a man jumping up and down and yelling excitedly about your financial future. And he’s wearing a suit covered in question marks. Or, you see a preposterous product, like an attachment for a vacuum that cuts your hair. You question yourself: am I still awake? Am I even sane? And remember fifth grade sex education class? When you were separated according to gender and forced to watch tapes of awkward, unrealistic reenactments of bodily confusion? These videos, the sources of some of our more bizarre life moments, are also the source of inspiration for the Found Footage Festival.

Found Footage Fest hosts Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher’s previous jobs include the Onion and the Late Show with David Letterman. They will be presenting their never-before-seen lineup of found video clips and live comedy this Saturday, Oct. 24th at the Alamo Drafthouse West Oaks at 10 pm.
